First of all: Yes, I like doing monitors as well as F.o.H. I don't think someone has to do monitors, one should truly like it!
I have a very musical approach when I'm doing monitors.
I think a Monitor Console is one more musical instrument on a stage and has to be handeled with great care.
If the musicians don't hear themselves or their bandmates, the entire performance will be spoiled.
So what I'm trying to do is to imagine, what the musician wants to hear when he stands (or sits) out there on a large stage. Or think about a Lead Vocalist: The mix of her or him should be like a rock solid fundament which enables the artist to put the voice on top and makes her or him feel safe during the concert.
So it's hardly never a problem for me to take care of "my" musicians (except they are very drunk or very obnoxious).
Anyway, I'm always giving them what they want because I want to make some music with these people.
I used to play drums and vibraphone for a long time, but actually I don't have a room where I can play. My sparetime also tends to zero, so in November 2005 I bought myself a cheapo-fivestring bass and I'm quite happy. Maybe someday I will record some shit of mine. You will hear the results sooner or later here.
Cooking Yeah, right. If you have feeling for spices, you have feeling for everything else as well.
So always take care of the right amount of lemongrass in your fishsoup and don't overdo the bass guitar in the wedges!
